Introduction

Yamdrok Lake (Yamdrok Yumtso) is one of Tibet's three sacred lakes, located in Nagarze County at an elevation of 4,441 m. The lake is famous for its stunning turquoise color and its unique scorpion-like shape, with numerous inlets and coves. The best viewpoint is from the Gampala Pass (4,794 m) on the road from Lhasa to Gyantse. The lake is considered a guardian deity of the Tibetan people and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and grazing yaks.
