The Ming Tombs are the burial site of 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty, located in Changping District, Beijing. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the site covers 40 sq km in a valley surrounded by mountains. The Sacred Way, lined with 18 pairs of stone statues of animals and officials, is the most impressive feature. Only three tombs are open to the public: Changling (the largest), Dingling (the only one excavated, with an underground palace), and Zhaoling.
